KEVLAR PROTECTION FOR THE TIPS OF THE PROPELLER BLADES Kevlar tape for kayaks (2cm wide), epoxy resin, 2 condoms or better still 2 fingers from a latex surgical glove. Sandpaper the varnish off the tips of the blades where the kevlar will be. Cut two identical strips of kevlar, then prepare the resin by mixing the two components. Take exactly the same amount of resin with a syringe (about 2 ml) , soak the kevlar with it (but not too much) with a small brush and dab it on the bare wood. Place the kevlar over the end of the blade and cover with the glove finger. Let harden for at least 24 hours before removing the latex. Sandpaper gently taking care not to fray the kevlar. A coat of paint on the ends of the blades (not mandatory) Balance the prop with a coke-bottle cork and some string. Contrary to a common belief, there is no loss in thrust, measured with a dynamometer on the carriage.
