How to make a cheap sail-bag Trace a 80 cm circle on one of the pieces of cloth with a thumbtack, string and a felt pen and cut it out. Cut the other piece of cloth in two to obtain 2 bands 50 cm wide and sew them end to end. Pin the edge of the band to the circular bottom and sew them together. Sew together both the free ends of the band. The result should look like an open tin of beans. Place 2 metal eyelets 3 cm apart on a 5 cm strip of strong reinforcing tape 4 cm from the top edge of the band. Sew a hem all round the top of the band in order to pass the cord that will come out through the two eyelets. Sew the ends of the tape together in order to make a loop and sew this to the bottom of the bag about 20 to 30 cm apart (to even out the weight). Do not sew outside the circle. You now have your sail-bag!
Materials - Parachute or spinnaker cloth, in two colours if possible (see a sail or kite maker), coat-lining material will do. Enough to make an 80 cm circle and a band 50 cm by 2,50 m. - 2 m of tape - 2 metal eyelets - 4m of draw-cord - 1 toggle to jam the draw-cord
